I have an IBM laptop with a Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 network adapter, but it seems the only encryption available on it is WEP (my Linksys wireless router can use WPA.)

Is it possible to re-jigger the adpater in some way so that it can use WPA encryption? Say, by downloading a new driver or other software? I'm not sure how these things work.

Not yet. I have heard of no software updates to change the wireless encryption.

Upon doing some more research I discovered it is possible to update the adapter to include WPA encryption.

I just checked my laptop and the IBM site and realized my Access Connections (program used to handle the different wireless connection profiles) was out of date. There is a download available on the IBM site here (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/migr-4zlnjb.html) for the Thinkpad (Win 2k).

This updated IBM Access Connections and also the drivers for the Intel wireless adapter. Thusly, WPA encryption is now available on my machine-router connection.
