View Full Version : ATTN: Zooner, RE: 2005 FPW...
What is the backlight like on your 2005FPW? Here's what mine looks like, and apparently it's a widespread problem judging by the posts on the Dell user forums. People are sending them back left and right.

Also, I am experiencing color desaturation about two inches in from the left bezel, which I also experienced on my 23" Apple Cinema Display, which uses the same LG panel type as the Dells do.
You noticed any of these problems?
I have some as well.
I haven't made an issue out of it because it only shows up when it's not really functioning. I do not notice any texture differences or variations in brightness if the screen is active.
Even when gaming, those 'brighter' areas still show up as pure black.
We have 3 years of coverage, so if it actually became a problem we could return it.
Some people have had serious problems while playing games and movies. I dont have that problem though.
ya know, I just noticed I do have a lil leakage. It doesnt cause a problem during gameplay or windows operations, but if I'm watching a movie widescreen; it's noticable.
I'll have to think about this.
yours looks horrible though. notice it during windows operations or anything else?
yours looks horrible though. notice it during windows operations or anything else? Yeah, I can see the top left leakage especially, it's even noticeable against darker-colored wallpapers -- it shows through. I don't usually watch DVDs on my PC, and I understand no LCD can be perfect, but this is pretty bad. I have no dead pixels, but light leakage? Figures. I'll probably get a replacement with even backlighting and 50 dead pixels.
The bad thing is, the low-end E173FP 17" LCDs we got at work (they're like $200 at Dell's site) are better than this 2005FPW. The black is pure black, no leakage.
My real problem with this monitor is with the strange desaturation. It's probably associated with the panel problems as well, but I notice it big time. Two inches in from the left bezel, whites look off-white/light grey, and like on the forums here, you can see the color shift. Quite annoying. From the posts I've read in the Dell forums, people are also getting the runaround from tech support, making them stomp through idiotic "troubleshooting" steps and other assorted hoops before reluctantly arranging an exchange.

you might consider getting the 2001fp, since they have refined the manuf. process and those problems aren't present.

Maybe, but widescreen is quite useful AND looks more "modern" than normal 4:3 ratio monitors. How much is the 2001FP?

no problem. I'll handle it when I get home.
It can be done manually, but it's a headache because not all the video.con files can be editted.

Burke: What connection were you using? I'm using the DVI and it looks great.

I always use DVI, but the type of connection is irrelevant. It's a manufacturing problem with these panels, and many people are on their second or third replacements.
I'm going to get mine replaced.
it doesnt bother me too much, but it is unacceptable.
