Ok...

I am in the planning stages of a new computer. I am mainly using it for designing my sites and serious gaming.

Should I go FX-55 or do the double processor thing? If I should go with 2 processors what speeds? I have set for myself about a $2,500 budget.

Thanks for the help,

RicRogue

Dual CPU's mean nothing for games.

The AMD64 series are superior for gaming, period. FX-55 is the best you can get bar none for gaming.

Well of course he can, but like people who say "lappy," he'll sound like an cutesy idiot.

ATI X850 XT PE if you wanna play farcry and HL2

you are completely wrong btw

6800U plays FarCry and HL2 just fine, in fact, i found better consistency in HL2 on GF6 series cards

especially with that FX-55 he will have no trouble at all

HL2 is very CPU dependent btw

Wow...$500...Oh well there goes that DVD Burner. I think it is a fad anyway. ;)

Well, $2500 is your budget, right?

$800 or so for the FX-55
$500 for the 6800 Ultra
$1300

Estimaed prices
You'll want a 74 GB Raptor probably ($170 or so), 1 GB of PC3200/DDR400 ($200-$400 depending on brand, timings), nForce3 Ultra mobo ($200 max), SOLID power supply ($100+), newer optical drive ($65+), a case and cooling (who knows)

well, that's the BFGTech 6800U with water block

if you aren't using water cooling in your computer then just get a regular air cooled 6800U

BFGTech GeForce 6800U OC for example, or whatever brand you like

Raid 0 74 Raptor --- $350
240 GB 7200 for storage---$150
1 GB OCZ PC3200 ----- $350
MB (not sure yet) ----- $150
Case and PS --------- $150
Optical Drives -------- $200
==========================
Sub Total $1350
FX-55 $ 850
Video Card $ 500

Grand Total $2700

I might be able to do it. Last question....What MB?

the CPU is the most expensive thing you got

ya know you could go for an FX-53 which would reduce that cpu price by at least $250

Ya, I was thinking of either that or go with a 4000+.

Both test out at about the same.

I wasn't aware that the G6 series were scaling as well at Farcry and HL2 as the ATI cards.. as I recall you yourself mentioned that there was a problem with water in the nVidia cards not present on ATI cards...

I completely respect your expert opinion.. that was just the impression I had..

Thanks for the correction,

Dave
