Hi people and the very best of the seasons greetings to you all.

I suspect that my problem has something to do with port forwarding. (from what I have been able to deduce from gleaning bits of info from various sites).

However, in browsing through your site I noticed that layman terms were used to explain "How to do" so I hope you don't mind me indulging.

I have an Alcadel 510 dsl modem/router into which I have plugged 2 machines. I am trying to access them from a remote PC using VPN.

I can ping the router but can not make a connection through to the pc which run on XP Pro.

If anyone can give me advice or point me in the direction to look, I will be very grateful.

Thank you in anticipation.

Martin

Does your modem/router even support VPN to begin with?

What VPN client app are you using to connect? You could probably use google to find out what ports you need to forward for that VPN client and then setup the forwarding in the router's config utility.

Thanks...

I take it that the router config utility is on the first computer?

It's built into most routers firmware, accessed using your web browser from any LAN PC, usually by opening up a page at 192.168.1.1 or something similar.
