Hey guys I have a friend that wants to buy her husband a new LCD monitor for Christmas, she wants to stay under $500 and prefers a 19" but a 17" will do (I told her for price that a 17" is her best bet). He is an avid gamer (not hardcore) and needs the best LCD for gaming in that price range. Since I'm not really a gamer any suggestions are very grateful.

Thanks.

Mornin' Mno...

Viewsonic’s VP912B, Viewsonic has been dominating the fast LCD market for some time now, with many review sites confirming so.

Have a read over at GamePC, which is one of the few sites out there that really gives a good LCD monitor comparison when it comes to gaming, they have many articles over there to read if you wish...

Viewsonic vp912b. It's a 19 incher, granted it's stretching the budget range just a wee bit, can be found in the mid to upper 500 range.

If budget can't move, (as you've already mentioned...17" is her best bet) they also have some P and G series monitors in the 17" range, with 16ms response times.

Bottom line....with LCD monitors, when it comes to gaming, you want to focus on the monitors "response time"...which is the rise and fall of the pixels. Todays standards, for gaming, you want 16ms or lower...12ms models have recently come out (but are pricey).

Right when I saw your header I was thinking about what zooner posted. if its the one with 12ms response. Dell has some good deals on them if you keep a good eye. Coupon codes is the key.

The samsung 710t is nice in my opinion as well. Its price dropped like 75 to about 425. Really crisp picutre and no ghosting or distortion. 12ms.

yeah if they can swing it i would go after the one zooner got or even the 2001fp that i have in my sig. i get zero ghosting as it has 16ms pixel response. Nothing wrong with the viewsonics either but i think you can get a bit more monitor combining some coupon codes at dell and still have a great monitor.
