I am having a problem reloading XP. After formatting the partition XP begins to load but falls over at various files, saying file not found. I try again but if fails again at a different file and % stage. Someone has suggested that it could be my RAM ( I have a P133 256meg). Has anyone had the same problem that could confirm that it could be the RAM?
Thanks
Geoff
Could be a scratched or flawed CD, hard drive beginning to fail or memory problem. Difficult to just say "this is the problem."

I have tried a few different discs and they all fail at different stages.

First, try cleaning out your CD drive with compressed air. If the install keeps failing, I would look at the hard drive as the culprit.

probably memory or the hard drive. If u have more than 1 stick of many try removing the other stick or sticks. Try them 1 at a time to see if it loads
What kind of cables are you using to hook those CD/DVD Rom drives up with?
I've had this issue before. It's been a bad cable for me before, and a drive that was dying another time.
can you just ignore the missing files and install XP ?

Usually not. Depending on what they were.
Did you have XP running on that machine before? A 133MHz machine is considerably below the minimum specs that Microsoft puts out for XP...

i assumed they meant 133 FSB, but you may be right on this.

Thanks everyone,
I have changed the RAM and XP loaded fine and dandy. So far so good.

i ran into a similar problem when loading XP on a friends computer. Kept failing at various times, drove me nucking futs. swapped out the memory and all was fine, went off without a hitch.
