Which is better overall value/performance.....

Radeon 9600 XT or
Radeon 9800 Pro

Now note, it is value vs performance.

Thanks...

those two cards are in totally different classes

9600xt = mainstream market

9800xt = enthusiast market

and because of that two very different price points, and also very different performance

the best 'value' may be the 9800pro right now which can be found in the lower end of the $200 scale these days

If you look at the Performance enchmarks the 9800 Pro blows the 9600 XT out of the water stock .... ( atleast last time I checked )

If the XT is still running at $200 ( give or take )

and the Saphire 9800 Pro OEM is running at $219 from Newegg right now ( unitl tomorrow ) .... Then to me the choice is obvious ...

Of course this all depends if you want more performance or the latest technology ... Also if you prefer the Auto over clock features of the 9600 XT and some extra bundle packages ...

For me It's sheer performance and price that I'm concerned with so the 9800 Pro was my obvious choice ....

here are some others that agree ...

I've battled with the same question for the past few months ... But when I saw Neweggs price on this and read the reviews from the people who have tha Aphire I couldn't pass it up ....

And the Ultimate Kicker ....

If pictures say a thousand words ... Wait until you see the benchmark comparion pics on this Site ...... This makes me so much happier in my decision ..... Just scroll through the pages looking at the graphs only if you like :)

9600xt = 4 pixel pipelines, 128bit memory interface
9800pro = 8 pixel pipelines, 256bit memory interface

two very different performing cards

the 9800pro is the best value since the prices are now in the lower $200 scale here in the US

the msrp of the 9600xt is $199, but can be found cheaper then that

Thanks for the excellent replies, everyone. Good input. Here is what I got... A friend at work has offered his 9600XT for $140. It's about one month old. Otherwise, I can buy a 9800 Pro for $200. I say the choice is clear now. Go for the 9800 Pro.
