im going to put some ddr433(3500) 1gig(512x2) dual channel in my system. if i stick a 2100 512stick in with it will it work? and if it works is it going to slow it down b/c its slower?

system:
p4 3.0ghz 800fbs
p4p800 motherboard
WD 160gig 8mb

If it's the system in your sig, you should be running PC3200. If you put RAM in slower than PC3200, you'll have to overclock that RAM. PC2700 you could probably get away with it, running it at 3200 speeds. But PC2100...well, that's a pretty decent overclock, might or might not run stable.

Also note you want to run dual DDR in pairs. You already have a pair of 512s....adding a single 512, not ideal. Should run in pairs, like a pair of 256's, or another pair of 512's.

You can use the PC3500, of course.

YeOldeStonecat means you should be running memory no slower than PC3200 (DDR400) in order to achieve the dual-channel memory speeds. If you use anything lower than PC3200, you'll have to overclock the memory to PC3200 speeds in order to get dual-channel working correctly.

If you put that extra PC2100 in, it will break the dual-channel configuration, thus costing you speed and the benefit of having the 800 MHz front side bus.
