Not too bad for Budget machines..

what speed P4 would a Celeron 2.4ghz compare too?..

Celerons, in lamest terms, suck. Except that wouldn't be true, because they actually suck a lot. I heard from some PC place that a Duron 1.8GHz beat a 2.4GHz celery down.

I could be wrong, but last time I checked they sucked.:p

friends mobo onboard video is dying..,,
he has an OLD comp.

K6-2 550 onboard video, onboard sound..
so I figured I could fix the comp at a relatively low cost, by
buying a new PSU, Mobo, and Proc
for now this is his primary comp, but soon I'll build him a better PC anyways (if you saw my post from a few days ago)
that's why I was thinking Celeron...pretty cheap and quite speedy..they don't run @ 100C either :p

how would the
P4 1.8a compare to a
Celeron 2.4 for example

in benches the 1.8a is about equal to celerons anywhere from 2.2-2.8GHz :) . avoid at all costs; 128k cache is real bad, and it's worth paying another $100-150 for a good p4; save you an upgrade later.

the prescott celerons have 256k cache so they might be OK like the tualatin celerons.

<==Not a fan of Celeries for running Windows NT. They were pretty good back in the Win98 days, Celeron "A's", etc. But not anymore. You can really feel the diff when running NT.
