Widescreen is really weird on my laptop[to me]. Its a 15.4 inch screen and its kinda weird. I need to have it on 1280X 800 and anything lower like 1024/768 looks VERY bad. Im just wondering is it possible to somehow turn back the widescreen aspect to a normal monitor aspect?

The question sounds weird but whatever!

well, no matter what, the physical dimensions of the lcd dictate how it will look. however, on many incl. mine, you can tell the video card to disable scaling; that will put a 800x600 image or whatever in the middle, which can be small depending on the native res. you can also have it scale but not break the aspect ratio. example; on mine you can scale 640x480, 800x600, 0r 1024x768 to 1400x1050, with two vertical black bars on each side.

is anything wrong with running 1280x800?

No problem really. Its just that wallpapers are stretched on this resolution. :(

Set your wallpaper to "Center" instead of "Stretch" under Display Properties > Desktop tab.

Yeah i thought of that. If its a 1024 and i center it then theres a huge area of some color. If its a wp thats like 1600 x whatever then some of it gets cut off. Ill just settle for that though. Im using center now and just cropping some parts of it off.

there are a number of sites that offer widescreen wallpaper. Since I dont yet own a widescreen lappy, I dont know of any off the top of my head.

Well whatever you do, always run the screen at its native resolution of 1280 x 800. No wallpaper is worth how heinous the display will look by using a non-native res.

Yeah i figured that when i tried to use 1024x768. It looks so distorted and messed up at that rez. Its like using a wide version of 800x600 on my desktop.

Just FYI, there reason it looks so bad is that, unlike a CRT that uses electron guns to draw images on the screen, LCDs have a fixed number of pixels (hence, "native resolution). Any resolution besides the native one causes the image to be stretched, using several physical pixels to draw just one.

If you've ever been to a CompUSA or Best Buy and looked at LCDs, you'll almost ALWAYS see them running in the wrong res, and I think that really puts a lot of people off from buying them (some being cost prohibitive being a factor as well, of course).
