View Full Version : Thermal cable placement?

Just picked up a thermal cable for my Abit BE-6, should've been installed with the system when I bought it but...

I plug it into the con2 header...but does it matter where I put the sensor? Should it be on the heatsink? Back or side?

Thanks

Same thing Zooner said a few months ago:D

Hi LT:)

I thought this was a standard thing. Attaches to the motherboard at the con2 header and gives temperature information...readable through BIOS, SISoft or I guess also one of those digital gauges.

What do you guys use to detect your temperatures if not thermal cables?

I used to use a dual diginurse:

Then I put the sensor under the center of the cpu and got accurate readings. Now I use MBM5:

I've tried to use MBM before but with limited results, as my mobo didn't have a sensor.

Which :D brings me back to my original question...where should I place the sensor? By "under the center of the cpu" do you mean between the cpu and the heatsink? Or between the cpu and the mobo?

Between the cpu and mobo. tape the tip of the sensor to the center underneath the cpu. Now for the wires. If ther wires are super thin, then all you do slip them inbetween the pins of the cpu.

or like this:

Thanx to Duzmor for the linky ;)

OK, thanks again.

Having a bitch of a time finding a heatsink for that Celeron locally.

Just made a run into town, bought the last slot1 hs/f a one store had, got back here 5 minutes ago...doesn't fit the chip and is missing the securing clips anyway:rolleyes:

Just got off the phone with another place, they think they MIGHT have one that'll fit it...going to run into town and return the first one then bring the chip into the second place with me to see if theirs will fit.

Got to love nice peaceful days off.
