I'm going to place an order tomorrow for a new motherboard and wanted to see what everyone thought the better of the two motherboards is, the Abit IS7 or the ASUS P4P800.

As far as I can tell, they are both using the Intel 865PE chip, and the features are real similar. I can save 25 or 30 bucks if I go with the Abit, but I recently read the news about performance increases with the ASUS P4P800 (i865PE) enabling PAT but an not sure if that would be worth the extra money or not. Also, Abit has three models, the IS7, IS7-G and IS7-E. As far as I can see, the -E doesn't have IEEE-1394 and 2 SATA 150 RAID 0/1. The plain IS7 has IEEE-1394 but no 2 SATA 150 RAID 0/1. The -G has it all.

I'm leaning towards the Asus.................

What everyone's recommendations ?

Good, that's what I did. Just built a rig on this board last weekend, as well as Dave's World. Both builds went flawlessly...a trait I've found with every Asus board I've had. I can't say that about Abits lately.

Thanks !

What's your take on that PAT enabling ? I suppose it probably doesn't matter too much at this point. I will be running a 2.4 P4-B until I can save up my pennies for a 800 P4-C model.

I would like to hear what some of the Abit owners think !

Posted an article about that a couple of days ago, think it was FiringSquad.

I have a 2.6C and a gig of Crucial PC3200 on her....running at nearly 3 GHz so far...creeping her upwards a little more each day. Not a single hiccup!

Did you do the deluxe model or the plain one ?
