View Full Version : Swapping stock heatsink?

I've got a slot1 P3 850MHz chip with a stock heatsink/fan installed in my system.

I'd like to swap it out for a Celeron 850MHz chip to play around with oc'ing...but there's no heat sink on the celeron.

Took the P3 out to see if I could just take the heatsink off...read it was to be attached only by thermal tape and not a problem to remove.

Well, it seems to be attached to the processor chip by a bunch of plastic mushroom pins that go through the heatsink AND the processor...never even got to the thermal tape.

Is there a reasonably safe way of removing a stock Intel heatsink without damaging either the processor or heatsink?

I don't see any way of removing those little plastic tabs that hold them together.

Thanks.

and is it just me or does NewEgg not carry a SINGLE slot1 heatsink?

Thanks for the help:)

So I should just give up on trying to remove this one?

If I buy a new one, do i have to look for a Celeron heatsink specifically or will a P3 one work also?
