I've got a client's PC here- AMD Athlon 1.0 ghz. Kept crapping out- turned out to be bad (read- cheap) power supply. Replaced that with an Antec True Power. OMG- they give you enough connectors in there to wire up your house!!

Anyway, installed Sandra, and checked CPU temp- it's running about 66c/150f, w/no load. This seems way too high to me. It has an el-cheapo Orb cooler on it.

Thoughts on temps, and a reasonably economical CPU cooler??

coolermaster heatpipe heatsink should be pretty cheap and work well, dunno about the noise level.

Thanks for the tips, guys. How about my temps?? Isn't 66c/150f too high? Shouldn't I try for around 130-140??

I have two of these in my dually. It took the cpu's temp down 15c. The run at 48 full load and the super quiet.

Sweet. I'm just headed out to pick a cooler up, and some Arctic Silver. I'll see if they have one. Gotta' live with what CompUSA has, because I want to get this thing back together and back to her today. Fortunately, they've started carrying a lot of this stuff in the store. I'm sure the price won't be as good, but at least I can get it today.

Thanks!

Most computer stores carry them. I did see them at compusa. I bought mine at fry's for about $27.00.
