Simple one really... since my gf4 died and am thinking of getting an ati card... how should I go to installing the card if I get it..
If I just plug the new card in.. the det drivers will still be on it.... so should I remove all the det drivers then plug the new card in?
and since my gf card died.. how am I going to do that?
TIA
If it's that diff.. I'll just get another gf4..

ATI is really winning me over, even though the mobility 9000 card is almost a year old on my laptop, the drivers and the card are still very good, and impressed with the overall image quality
I think when I upgrade my pc at end of year, unless something radical changes I will probably go with ATI
dont think it is that different, just take out gf4, uninstall drivers by going into vgta mode, then pop ati card in, reboot and install new drivers?
but never tried it, but i imagine that is the way to do i?

Upon first boot, go into safe mode and uninstall anything nvidia first. then reboot and install the ati stuff...remember something goofy ati does is make u install both the drivers and the control panel seperate. So make sure u download both of them from the website.

so I'm thinking of going to radeon given the good things I hear...
and that it works with sb.. the most important thing.. hehe
just how the heck do I remove the det drivers without a valid vid card?
and give me a site to cat drivers? :D yea.. i'm that lazy.. :P
Hey Immortal..look for a program called "Detonator Destroyer". I hear it does a complete wipe of Nvidia files and registry entries. Great for switching to ATI based cards.

you dont really need that.. what you do is go to control panel / add remove programs and then uninstall your drivers
If you want you can go and reboot and press F8 on boot up and log on as admin.. and delete all of the nv .DLL files or whatever in your /system32 folder
shut down comp.. slap the card in.. start up.. press F8 log on as admin and install new catylst drivers..

Well what vid card are you using right now?
If you want a CLEAN uninstall of the drivers ( this is usually when your updating drivers [Example from manufactorer to generic detonators] you have to uninstall the .dlls from the /system32 folder
thats so that it doesnt recognize the card in there and default install what you are trying to uninstall
But all YOU have to do is uinstall drivers.. its gonna reboot
shut it down rather than reboot
slap in ATI card and your set to go...

My opinion 9500 pro beats the 9600 pro
[brents gonna be on my case on that one.. but
overclocking wise 9600 pro beats the 9500 pro..
I wasnt very happy when my friend recieved his 9600 pro and it came with no games.. so.. /shrug
you can read all about it here..
http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDU4
I think that they tried to get rid of the 9500 pro cause it was leeching all of the sales of their 9700 pro.. but i dont know
/shrug
They are both rock solid cards

so if I don't oc and I don't want any games ... 9600 would be a better buy?
it's 30 bucks canadian diff between those 2 cards..
EDT: I read some reviews and that 9600 isn't as powerful as 9500.. or am I wrong? I'm not sure..

yeah... i would buy the 9500 pro...
I definately would buy the 9500 pro.. well think about it.. ATI is trying to do something by replacing it.. either they ****ed up bad with the 9500 pro by making it ****ty or tooo good.. guess what
its the 2nd one :P
so buy the 9500 pro
and have a beer while your at it

talking about beers... I once went drinking with buddies and I drank quite a few.. but still able to play driving games.. we played them daytona racing... where I usually come in 1st..
but since I've been drinking... I came in 3rd! this just goes to show u don't drink and drive.. even if u think u could!
