can you tell us the rest of your spec?
eg. what sound card?
Did you do anything to your setup just before the problems appeared or has it always been like that?

No need to be embarassed about our hardware. Not everyone can afford to ahve the latest and greatest. If you don't need the functionality of a more expensive component, what's the point?
Anyway, please fill in the blanks:
CPU: P4 1.6
RAM: ???
Motherboard: ???
GC: Geforce2
Sound Card: ???
Other PCI cards: ???
OS: Win 2000 or Win XP ???

Get Sisoft Sandra (http://www.sisoftware.net/index.html?dir=dload&location=sware_dl_x86&langx=en&a=) software and run the benchmark to see what your machine is made of :)

Well I'm afraid I don't know anything about your motherboard, especially as it's an HP computer.
Which games does the computer freeze in?
It could be cause by a lot of different things - are you comfortable opening up your PC and fiddling with it's insides?
If so I can give you some starting points, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you really are comfortable with it, it could prove costly!
