View Full Version : Monitor - VGA Connector Question
On one of my monitors, I used to switch around a lot plug/unplug it from comp to comp..
Some of the pins in the connector are severly bent..
I can't seem to be able to bend them back right...
would it be worth my time to try to find a VGA Connector to Ghetto Rig on there?..Cut+Twist the wires together...or would it be not worth it/not work..or perhaps possibly damage my vid cards?...
It's a crappy 14' Monitor...it still works...what do you guys think?>
TIA

I would guess that the cable would be shielded to block interference. I dont think its worth you time, especially for a 14", now if it was 20" then maybe
ah ok...
I'll have to look around at some of the local comp shops, for used cheap 14-15' monitors...
It was for one of the folding machines, I used it for instant messaging and checking my email as well...

it is possible that you could solder a new cable directly to the board on the monitor(or however it conntects)

Very thin needle nose pliers...I've used to straighten out ones that bend down, etc.
Sometimes you can get them to stand up straight again...other times, as metal often does...a few too many wiggles and it snaps off.
Sometimes it doesn't really matter...as depending on the video card or monitor...not all of the pins are always used. Some pins are more important than others...you may find that just removing the bent pins she'll still work OK for ya.
Is the VGA cable fixed to your monitor? Or does it also connect to the monitor with thumb screws...so you can replace it?

DOH! Sometimes you can grab it by the cable.....start swinging it around in a circle as fast as you can....then let go when you figure the trajectory will lead it right into a nice concrete wall.
