when i turn on my computer it sounds like its starting normal but when it goes to the blue screen that has the big HP logo on it, it beeps then stay that way. It never gives me an oppertunity to hit F2 or whatever, or anything else. Is there anything i can do?

i have a HP pavillion comp running windows 98

hit the esc button, does anything happen? it should go black with white lettering

if it doesnt, reboot the machine (you'll probably have to do a hard reboot) and hit esc right when you see the blue HP screen. tell me if it comes up with any error, such as hard disk, mouse, keyboard, IRQ, etc

i got it to a bios screen. I tried reseting the defaults but it just does the same thing.

I guess I could help anyways...

what's the model number of your HP PC..

and what kind of beeps

the regular short beep..
or what..

it could be your proc, ram or gfx card that somehow got hosed..

i was using it this morning, it was working fine, i shut it down. Later in the afternoon i pushed the power button and all i got was a little blinking curser on a black screen. So i just hit power, turned it off then back on and i just keep getting stuck at the blue HP screen now.

unplug the power cord

push the power button a few times to drain the Power Supply

leave it uplugged for 5-10 minutes, plug power back in, reboot see what happens

When you reboot it, just wait.

It may take a long time, but it should come up eventually with an error message.

Post the error.

If no error message after 15 minutes, post and let us know.

hmmmm.....could be a ram problem, or even a hard drive problem

if your comfortable taking your computer apart, take every PCI card out accept the graphics card, plug her in and see if she boots....

There is a setting in the BIOS to disable that HP logo. I forget the name of it though.
Anyone?

If you can get that disabled, we may be able to see what's going on behind the logo. Exactly where it's hanging.

Damn HP crap :D

Nightowl has some good info there. Maybe YoS can help you out if you aren't sure.
