how hot is to hot for a cpu? I have a amd xp 2500.
Dude they suck..:p
I think they can go as high as 80C, but you don't want to do that. 60C is high but should be safe. Why where you at Chuck?
Remember it was hot today. I hit 50C while folding. We'll cut you a blowhole at work if you want to.;)

my temps are 45C for cpu and 27c for mb
That sounds good considering you have stock cooling. When you get your new HS it will drop and you can start to OC that thing. You're fine for now. If your room gets hot in the summer We'll chop your case a bit. My fans should be in tomorrow. I'll hook one up in the server room so you can check it out.;)

those should be some good temps, but if you want to stress the system and see how high they can get , consider joining our folding @ home team (http://www.speedguide.net/sg_teams.php)
welcome to speedguide :)
