I would like to use this in a little game/filer server with that ECS board.

Thoughts ?

(I'll be back with more questions about other hardware.) :)

What do you think the MINIMUM wattage should be on a PSU for this ECS board ?

Thanks. :)

300-350ish from antec enermax, sparkle, or any other good PSU.

Thanks YoS...

one more question:

What kind of video card should I get for a server ? It won't really be used to play games and stuff.

Would a 7000 be sufficient ?

:)

yes... just get the 64meg version because it's only a couple of bucks more. i'm running a 4meg pci card for mine and it works fine.

I had the kingston ram about six months ago in my main rig. I crashed 5 times in two days with that ram, even though I was only running it at 260mhz!!

I'm not saying it s*cks, just that i had a bad experience with it.

I'll check out that video card for the rig.

Like this one ? http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduct.asp?description=14-102-202&depa=1

That sucks about the ram. It has great reviews from people. Hmm....

Probably is up there.

However, the mobo only supports PC2700.

As long as it'll get the job done.

that's overkill for 99% of people though...

I have pc3000xms and it's running at 400mhz totally stable.

even crucial pc2100 would be enough. for a server, 256megs would be fine.

The server will be hosting some smaller BF1942 games, websites, files, etc. I would rather have a bit too much than not enough. I'll probably top it out at 512mb.

Here is what I'm thinking. What do you think ?

- Lite-On Model# HT 761S (Beige)ATX Case w/ 400W P4 Ready Power Supply and Front USB Ports - Retail
- Lite On 52x Cd Rom - Model LTN-526 -RETAIL
- MITSUMI D359M3 FDD 1.44MB 3.5INCH - OEM
- WD WESTERN DIGITAL "SPECIAL EDITION" 80GB 7200RPM EIDE - HARD DRIVE MODEL # WD800JB - OEM, DRIVE ONLY
- KINGSTON HyperX Series 184-pin 512MB DDR333 (PC2700) 64X64 DDR RAM modules, Model# KHX2700/512
- Pentium 4 2.4BGHz 512K 533MHz CPU Northwood P478 Processor Retail Box
- ATI OEM RADEON 7000 64MB SDR W/TV

All for $476 shipped from Newegg.

i didnt realize you'd be hosting games from it.

double check on that video card, if it'll be enough.

otherwise, that sounds VERY good.

As for the video card... I won't be playing on this system. This will soley be the host. I will be playing on my other new system which has 9700 Pro. :D

Thanks for the opinions, Zooner.

Anyone have any ideas ? Burke ? YOSC ?

if you are going to run it as a server, might look into 1 GB of ram maybe.

I was thinking bout that. YOSC said he had a game host and it never really used over 400MB total. If 512MB won't work, I can always upgrade another stick of 512MB. :)

Good thinking though.

Mountain man, I have this stick, search for hyperx in thread

Its a very solid stick of ram. For the price u should definately get it

I can get it to around 370mhz stable cl2, and my timing are very fast

THank you very much for the info AA !! :)

I am really waiting on YOSC's opinion on the setup as a whole for a game server rig.

:)

Or.. anyone else have an opinion ?
