Yes, I need to know too... we have a comp with 768M in it, running W98, and I don't think it is using it. Isn't there a VCACHE setting or something that has to be set??

Usually fine with 512, if you exceed 512 you need to tweak the system.ini. Depends on the chipset you use, chipset drivers, etc...as there may be some systems that won't run on 512 unless you tweak it. I can't find where I had something printed out, I had the optimal settings for min and max settings. Haven't installed 98 on a power rig in a long time.

On those stubborn ones where you can never even get to desktop, if you have multiple sticks of RAM, just yank one during setup, once you're all tweaked, add it.

Win9x pretty much flatlines it's RAM usage around 320 - 380 megs...depending on various tweaks...doesn't really utilize RAM past that point too well.

Cacheman was a good program to easily tweak that.

My setup runs fine on 98se. Need to get off my wallet and get XP, though.

My system ran fine with 512, it was a triple boot 98, 2K and XP. The last time I tweaked my os to death and had to reinstall I added another 256. 98 wouldn't even install, got an error saying not enough memory, lol. I didn't bother pulling a stick to try and install 98 again. I only used it for games. With compatibility mode they all play fine in 2k so I dropped 98.;)
