details: 802.11n Wireless USB Broadband Router
hardware type: Wireless Router
date added: 2010-02-07
updated: 2020-03-28
The MZK-W04NU is a wireless router with one 10/100Base-T WAN port, four 10/100Base-T LAN ports and a single USB port.

The integrated access point complies with IEEE 802.11n (draft 2.0), providing wireless transmission speeds of up to 300Mbps. It can operate in AP, Wireless Bridge and Repeater modes and supports WEP and WPA/WPA2 wireless encryption. The MZK-W04NU uses WMM (QoS) to prioritize the traffic over the network. A WPS button allows for worry-free wireless security configuration.

This router features a built-in firewall to protect the network against malicious attacks.

Pros:
Good hardware and chipset.
Linux-based, supports third party firmware.

Cons:
Factory firmware and support seem lacking.
Slow wireless performance when using the "40 Mhz" band option.

My second Planex router and I should have learned my lesson the first time round.

As an AP its fine but it is just terrible at managing security and connections.

It needs regular restarts to clear connections that should have terminated.

If Upnp is enabled my SPF firewall gets spammed with port scans from the router address causing the firewall block the routers IP and finally get bogged down and lock up which means a system reboot. No its not normal because my 3com router worked perfectly for 3 years with the same setup im using on this thing.

The port forwarding is erratic sometimes working sometimes failing.

The usb attached file/media server function does not work at all, although the device recognises the HD my PC my notebook and my PS3 are all unable to locate the network device.

4 emails to Planex support in one week and not a single response.
