A new legislation was proposed in Congress to establish a government task force to monitor domestic and overseas policy proposals that could threaten Internet freedom. The task force would comprise of government officials and outside Internet activists. The aim of the new formation is to monitor proposals and practices, in both the U.S. and other countries that deny market access to Internet goods and services or threaten the technical operation, security and free flow of communications on the Internet. The task force would hold public hearings, issue reports and coordinate Internet freedom policies in the U.S. government.
Lofgren introduced an earlier version of the Global Free Internet Act in 2012. That version of the bill did not pass in Congress. Read more -here-
