Tesla is recalling 3,470 2022-2023 Model Y cars due to bolts in the second-row seat back frames not being secured properly.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said a loose seat frame bolt may reduce seat belt system performance, increasing injury risks during a crash.

Tesla estimates that 4% of the recalled cars have the defect, which the company says it identified on Dec. 10, when an operator in Tesla's Fremont, California, facility noted that the second-row seats had not been properly screwed in.

Tesla says it will inspect the bolts on recalled vehicles and "if necessary retorque them to specifications." The company does not plan to issue any reimbursements because there are "no warranty repairs related to these conditions."

The recall was filed the same month Tesla recalled all 363,000 US vehicles with the "Full Self Driving" driver assist software due to safety risks, a significantly larger recall, which was a blow to the automaker's business model.
