T-Mobile offers free data usage for video streaming2015-11-11 01:51 by Daniela
At its Uncarrier X event in Los Angeles, T-Mobile has revealed a new service that will allow customers to watch many popular online video services on their phones without counting against their monthly data allowances. The program is called "Binge On" and will include Netflix Inc., HBO and Hulu. Due to technical obstacles, YouTube, Amazon.com Inc. Prime and Facebook won't be available initially. T-Mobile will work to add more streaming services over time. Binge-On is available to customers with a 3GB plan or higher. Customers on the 1GB plan won't get unlimited video viewing, but they'll get access to the optimized stream, which should give them three times as many videos as normal. To make the video delivery work better, T-Mobile optimizes the video at a lower quality (480p) so it won't use unnecessary data. According to the company's executives, the difference in quality isn't very noticeable on phone screens. "Binge On" will officially launch on Sunday. Customers will be able to control the service by using a switch to activate or deactivate it for each line in their My T-Mobile account. Read more -here-
