SpaceX rocket explosion destroys Facebook's satellite

Facebook's revolutionary $200 million satellite, which was supposed to bring Internet to sub-Saharan Africa, has been destroyed in an explosion. The satellite was a payload of a SpaceX rocket, which exploded during a test at Cape Canaveral in Florida.

The company confirmed that the explosion occurred during preparations for a static fire test of the rocket. The cause of the explosion is yet unclear.

"SpaceX can confirm that in preparation for today's static fire, there was an anomaly on the pad resulting in the loss of the vehicle and its payload," the company said in a statement. "Per standard procedure, the pad was clear and there were no injuries."

Despite the loss, Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that his company will continue to work for providing the world with Internet connectivity.

"We remain committed to our mission of connecting everyone, and we will keep working until everyone has the opportunities this satellite would have provided," Mr. Zuckerberg said.
