Samsung could sell 'refurbished' Galaxy Note 7 phones

Samsung has announced that it will soon start selling the Galaxy Note 7 again in the form of refurbished or rental versions.

However, the company didn't specify when or where the Galaxy Note 7 devices would re-emerge.

"Regarding the Galaxy Note 7 devices as refurbished phones or rental phones, applicability is dependent upon consultations with regulatory authorities and carriers as well as due consideration of local demand," Samsung said in a statement.

The world's largest smartphone maker pulled the plug on the Galaxy Note 7 in October, with the recall costing it $5 billion and bruising its reputation with consumers. Samsung's monthslong investigation concluded in January that the battery problems resulted from battery manufacturing issues and design flaws. It also said that month more than 96% of recalled devices in the U.S. had been returned.
