Mozilla and Foxconn have officially announced that they are partnering on different devices, including a Firefox OS tablet. Foxconn says that they're already working on at least five new devices that will run the Firefox OS, but they noted that these devices wouldn’t be limited to just smartphones and tablets, so we could be seeing some desktop or laptop computers running Firefox OS, or even a handful of Smart TVs that will come equipped with Mozilla's offering.

"We see huge opportunities in the emerging markets where the customers and carriers crave for affordable smartphones," Liu Gong, a Mozilla senior vice president of mobile devices, told the Journal. "We focus on the low- cost segment because it is underserved."

"Firefox OS from Mozilla is based on HTML5 and open web technologies. The whole idea perfectly matches to the strategies promoted by Foxconn. We believe that the integration of software and hardware development will offer greater benefits to our customers and consumers," Liu continued.

Announced first in February, Firefox OS, which will use new HTML 5 web code, has already teamed with at least 17 phone carriers, including Deutsche Telecom, Sprint and China Unicom, a sign of "significant industry support for a fully-adaptable unconstrained mobile platform," the company wrote on its blog.
