Today, Google announced Nose BETA, the company's new fictional product, that promises "to offer the sharpest olfactory experience available." The "scentsation search" allows users to search for different smells using its "mobile aroma indexing programme that now has a 15 million scentabyte database of smells from around the world".

Users can use the search engine to type in any smell they are looking for... any product from diapers to vehicles, from roses to wet dogs, and Google promises to transmit the scent to them. The promise inevitably, encourages users to stick their noses close to the screen to smell it while they can.

Of course Google Nose is not real; it's among the company's many April Fool's Day jokes. To make their hoax 'foolproof' Google has also introduced SMELLCD 1.8+ for precise odours and an Android app for smell detection.
