Google has announced the name of the next major version of its Android mobile operating system. Previously known only as the new Android N, the Android OS version 7.0 is now officially called Android Nougat. It will join Marshmallow, Lollipop, KitKat, Ice Cream Sandwich, and all the other sugary Android versions.

The name Nougat was among the countless number of names suggested by the public, as Google had let the fans and users of the Android OS decide on what they would want the new Android version to be called as. Other possible names were nachos, naan, nectar, nut brittle, and more.

The new Android Nougat is currently on its fourth stage of the developer preview. It is expected to have a full public release this fall.

Among the new features that the OS will offer are security improvements, improved notification shade and split-screen multitasking, improvements on features like Doze that came with Marshmallow last year. The release also has Daydream, Google's new VR platform, baked in, though it'll only be supported by Daydream-ready handsets running the OS.
