FCC Proposes Broadband Outage Reporting

FCC proposed a new requirement on Thursday, according to which interconnected VoIP and broadband ISPs should report broadband network outages.

Currently, these reporting rules concern only the traditional phone service but not the cable operators and those, providing VoIP services. The purpose of the proposal is to extend those rules to the new technology.

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski said the FCC "would be mindful of its authority, and of operators' constraints, but that the commission has public safety responsibilities it needs to fulfill through extending the reporting requirement to an increasingly important phone service."

Good idea... this may help push ISP's to get services back up and running to 100% faster than letting some pc of equipment just have issues but won't change it out due to costs till it fails. Also may help give consumers a base line to pick from for stability.
