Facebook working on "dislike" button

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the company plans some kind of "Dislike" button. It would be less a way to voice opposition to a post than to express empathy with a friend. Testing is expected to begin soon.

Zuckerberg admitted that making something so "simple" isn't actually that simple, but after years of people demanding the option to "dislike" a Facebook post, the company is finally ready.

"It's important to give people more options than just 'like'" to help express empathy and sympathy, Zuckerberg said. "Not every moment is a good moment."

The new button won't probably be called "dislike." It will be more like a "sympathize" button or a bunch of buttons that convey support or solidarity or express other similarly positive emotions.

"Some people have asked for a dislike button because they want to say, 'That thing isn't good.' And that’s not something that we think is good for the world. So we’re not going to build that," Zuckerberg said at the time.

It's obvious that Facebook is trying to avoid the less cordial, more negative interactions, such as up voting and down voting, that take place on other services. The company also does not want to prevent people from sharing or liking as freely as they do now on Facebook.
