Facebook wins trademark case in China

Facebook has won a copyright case in China and will be able to use its own brand name in the future. The case was against a Chinese company which registered the two-word term "face book" as a separate trademark.

The Beijing High Court ruled that the Zhongshan Pearl River Drinks Factory, based in southern Guangdong province, should not have been allowed to register the "face book" trademark in 2014.The country's trademark regulator may still revisit the decision, but it appears to be a victory for Facebook.

Despite the court's decision was in favor of Fcebook, the world's largest social network, is still blocked to China's 700m internet users. The company's CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made efforts to break the ice with Chinese officials, but so far unsuccessfully.
