Facebook announced today that it has been hacked. After users have experienced forced logouts on their Facebook accounts, the company has reported that a hacker gained access to nearly 50 million Facebook user accounts by exploiting a weakness in the social network's systems, Facebook said on Friday.

"We do not yet know whether these accounts were misused but we are continuing to look into this and will update when we learn more," Zuckerberg said in a blog post published on Friday.

"But it's clear that attackers exploited a vulnerability in Facebook's code that impacted 'View As', a feature that lets people see what their own profile looks like to someone else," Facebook's VP of Product Management Guy Rosen said in a statement. "This allowed them to steal Facebook access tokens which they could then use to take over people's accounts."

Everyone whose profile used the "View As" tool in the last year will have to log in to Facebook again, and any apps that used Facebook to log in. From there, they'll be able to see a statement from Facebook explaining what happened. The company estimated that about 90 million people will have to log in again.
