Experiment proves future drones may not need batteries2016-09-28 02:58 by Daniela
Researcher at the Imperial College London has created a battery-less drone, which can fly "forever". The drone is powered only by the wireless power transmitter beneath it. It has had its battery removed and has been outfitted with a coil of copper foil tape. This acts as a receiver for the electromagnetic waves that are being put out by the plate that the drone is flying over. There is a catch though - a tech demo shows that the drone is flying about five inches above its wireless power base, with minor side-to-side movements. The wireless power drone technology is still in its early stages of development. For such a technology to work over great distance, it will require extensive infrastructure. Read more -here-
