Cox Communications launched Ultimate High Speed Internet in Hampton Roads, Va., offering up to 50 Mbps downloads and 5 Mbps uploads. The Hampton Roads launch follows Cox's deployment of DOCSIS 3.0-based service in six divisions: Las Vegas; Louisiana; Northern Virginia; New England (Rhode Island); Arizona; and Orange County, Calif. "We've listened to our customers, and they continue to tell us that speed and reliability are among the main reasons they choose their Internet service provider, so Cox has invested heavily in our network to ensure we continue to deliver on our commitment," said Gary McCollum, senior vice president and general manager of Cox Virginia. Pricing for the Ultimate tier was not immediately available. As in other markets, Cox Ultimate Internet in Hampton Roads includes a feature called PowerBoost, which provides a temporary extra burst of speed for file downloads up to 55 Mbps. Cox recently increased speeds of other packages in Hampton Roads. The MSO boosted Premier Internet service from 20 Mbps download speed to 25 Mbps and Preferred Internet from 10 to 15 Mbps.
