AT&T automatically blocks fraud calls

On Tuesday, AT&T started automatically blocking robocalls for its customers. The move comes after the FCC last month voted to let carriers block robocalls by default. AT&T is now the first of the big four US carriers to commit to do that.

"The Commission's recent action builds on a years-long effort to enable broader adoption of call-blocking tools and allow providers to better protect their customers and networks," AT&T said in a statement. "AT&T remains committed to working with our government and industry partners in the ongoing battle against unwanted and illegal robocalls."

For any existing AT&T customers interested in using Call Protect now, you can download the service as an app or turn it on through your MyAT&T account. The company has already rolled out a suspected spam caller alert for existing customers, too, and says it plans to add more tools to fight robocalls in the coming months.

AT&T's service is the first that will be on by default, instead of requiring users to opt in or download a separate app. T-Mobile already offers customers two free tools, Scam Block and Scam ID, but Scam Block needs to be turned on first. Sprint charges a $2.99 fee for Premium Caller ID, and Verizon alerts customers if a call is from a suspected spammer. Google and Apple have worked to add spam blocking into Android and iOS too.

T-Mobile is the first carrier for this not AT&T. That article is wrong.
