Apple Inc. is overhauling its developer database and server software after its main website for developers was hacked. No names have been revealed in the alleged security breach, but security researcher Ibrahim Balic pinned the blame on himself, claiming that he was merely trying to alert Apple to several vulnerabilities that he discovered on the site.

One of the bugs apparently provided him with access to user data, which he said he immediately reported to Apple. Four hours after he filed his report, he said, the Developer Center shut down. Balic has since attempted to e-mail Apple but has yet to receive a response, he said.

"Last Thursday, an intruder attempted to secure personal information of our registered developers from our developer website. Sensitive personal information was encrypted and cannot be accessed. However, we have not been able to rule out the possibility that some developers' names, mailing addresses, and/or email addresses may have been accessed," Apple told developers on its website.

"In order to prevent a security threat like this from happening again, we're completely overhauling our developer systems, updating our server software, and rebuilding our entire database."
