Adobe Flash will die by 2020

Adobe today announced that Flash, will be phased out by the end of 2020. At that point, Adobe will stop updating and distributing Flash.

The once-ubiquitous technology used to power most of the media content found online will be fully supported and maintained by then. Adobe will work close with other tech giants, such as Apple, Mozilla, Microsoft and Google to offer security updates for Flash in their browsers and support new versions of them. However, Adobe will not offer any new Flash features.

Back in 2012, Adobe recognized that Flash's end was near, with a five- to 10-year timeframe for its eventual phasing out.

Over the past few years, other tech companies also expressed frustration with Flash and instead began to use newer technologies like the HTML5 coding language to display video and interactive games. Big businesses like Google and Microsoft have already started their own initiatives to stop supporting Flash within their respective web browsers in favor of HTML5.
