SpeedGuide.net TCP/IP Analyzer
TCP properties for IP = xxx.xx.xx.xxx
Browser/OS = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)
Note: Read the FAQ if the above is not your IP address.

TCP options string = 0204059801010402

MTU = 1472
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.

MSS = 1432
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1432, which equals MSS.
MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 2864
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 2864
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:
504064 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)
252032 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)
126016 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)
63008 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product:
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 114.56 kbps (14.32 KBytes/s) @ 200ms
Your RcvWindow limits you to: 45.824 kbps (5.728 KBytes/s) @ 500ms
Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 109 hops
TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349)= 00101000
Precedence (priority) = 001 (priority)
Delay = 0 (normal delay)
Throughput = 1 (high throughput)
Reliability = 0 (normal reliability)
Cost = 0 (normal cost)

I am on a static ip..
i use windows xp.. my modem is arescom netDSL 1000 series..
i use an ethernet connection between the modem and my comp..
thanks

OK first you need to set your MTU properly, I assume this is a PPPoE DSL connection, are you using your ISPs software or XPs native setup? :) :D

nope.. no pppoe
.. static ip.. when my computer turns on.. i'm connected to internet.

OK then your MTU should be 1500, see if the fixes in my Help & Tips link help. :) :D

What about TCP?

What do you mean? First your MTU needs to be right before anything else. :)

2002-12-09 14:31:04 EST: 514 / 197
Your download speed : 514983 bps, or 514 kbps.
A 62.8 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 197677 bps, or 197 kbps.

Those were my results after changing MTU.
Advertised speeds were 512/256

OK can you please post a TCP/IP Analyzer test and what are your ISPs caps? :)

That's why I asked you to try the suggestions in my Help & Tips link. :)

Try manually setting it in your registry in the following location:

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\<interface>

DWORD value of 5dc (which will make it 1500).

MTU=1500

:) :D

OK looking back through some older threads I found this one, did you change your connection? If so who is your ISP now? :)

by AMDbeginner
i use the same isp.. just htat i changed from dynamic ip to static
same plan and everything..
my isp is a chilean one.. called GTD..
i live in south america.

are there different settings for static and dynamic ip.. even if the plans are different?

OK from reading your other thread I think you left out some important information..... are you using a router? You said you have a server, is this pc running through another one to access the internet? :)

Posted: Mon Dec 09, 2002 3:52 pm
by AMDbeginner
nope
this comp IS ther server.
so.. directly connected to net.

OK but are you using ICS to share the connection with other pcs? If so I think that's what is messing up your MTU, you need to set your ICS MTU to 1480.... I believe it should be 1480 even though you have a static IP. :) :D

ok
so.. MTU 1480.. got it
