The cd rom disappears and reappears sometimes, I don't know why, could it be a cable problem? My friend just changed his mobo. Is there a fix for this?

Go to control panel -> systems -> cd rom - > settings

uncheck "Hide and seek"

I had that problem too. It was my psu. After i swapped it, no more houdini acts with my roms.
