i have been thinking about getting a cell phone. then a few minutes ago i got a offer in my email for a free phone, service through at&t (which i know is a lagitimate company), free activation, free charger, all that good stuff. so i have to give my social security # and some personal info, but not my credit card number. should i do it or not. im not really comfortable giving it on the internet, but it sounds like a good deal. would you do it?

No. There are LOTS of providers in my area. I suggest Verizon Wireless, Sprint PCS or US Cellular. We have Cingular here and its alright. GO to the store. Dont buy cell phones online. They always have promos for free phones-every singe cell phone company.

Hi Princess
I have att since 1989 and no complains, way back I had cheap phone analog connection was realy bad far as signal strength because when they went to digital .I endup buying Nookia and that solve the problem. I dont remember giving my social security # but that was long ago, yes I heard they have good deals lately in service.

I would do it, your single so the phone won't be used as a tracking devise. I, somehow, managed to break the battery in mine...

I got SPrint PCS, 1500 minutes a month, all include long distance, and wireless web. for $34.95/month. not too bad, my total bill is $42.88, with the $5/month product protection, if I lose my cell phone or whatever, get's replaced for $30 bucks. Of course, I DID pay $229 for my phone, and use it maybe 50 minutes of my time a month....so it's not practical for me
Oh yea, so no I would not do it, research the phone, it's most likely a cheap ass Analog phone, instead of digital, but if it's ATT, I think all their cell phone are digital, so your probably gonna ge stuck with a lifetime contract, lol. Sprint PCS is no contract too. But compare the pro's and con's, I used to sell cell phones for a living, so I know a fair amount.

FYI-
The reason that they want your SS# is so they can run a credit check. It's probably stated somewhere on the site in small print. You must agree to a credit check before they can legally do one. (believe it or not, several credit checks in a short time period is an auto "red flag" for creditors)

Verizon typically has the most towers, hence the best chances for the call to work.... anywhere in the US.....
