I receided a notification from Adelphia to discontinue the use of
a "Proxy Server" setting in Internet Explorer.
This was "due to network maintenance and upgrades" in my area (Erie, PA).
After turning off the proxy in IE6, it takes "forever" to access web pages.
Once located the page downloads quickly.
The problem seems to be in IE6. Netscape 7.0 does not have the problem witn "no proxy", it
finds pages quickly (as did IE6 previously with the proxy setting).
I cannot go back to using the proxy setting, with it set I am directed back
to Adelphia page requiring me to turn off the proxy as soon as I access any
web page.
Running IE6 & XP Pro. Tech support was no help.
Any ideas????
Thanks,
Charlie
IE6 Slow with "No Proxy" setting
Sounds like you might have some issues with the overall configuration of IE6. Go to Control Panel/Add&Remove Programs scroll down to Internet Explorer 6 and Tools click remove, A screen will pop up giving you the option to repair IE6 choose that, once the repair is done, Go to IE6 right click hit properties then connections then click Setup. Configure your IE6 to connect thru lan (of course
) make sure none of the boxes are checked on the screen for proxy settings. Hope that works.
