Just switched from DUN to broadband using cable modem. I also have LAN wired in home to network 3 PC's. No problems when using DUN. Having switched to cable only the PC used to register for service has access to internet. I need internet access for the others but currently all attempts - PC via LAN hub to cable modem or PC direct to cable modem fails to allow access to any other PC. Can anyone help ???

you need a router. cabel modem>router>switch>3 comps.
the router forwards the ip addy so the other comps can connect.
but b4 you take my advice wait for a pro. im still learning.

The easy way is to add a router,If you try to use a Hub or switch you will need an Ip for each computer. But First How will you use the network?Do you just want to Have a network for the internet or do you have a lot of file to move?Do you want to play on line games on all computer or just one?You need to get a router to meet you needs. At the low end a 4 port router are $69 to $79, something like a D-link or linksys. next mid- class $79 to $160 . something like netgear or nexland.

use ICS or Internet Connection Sharing Win98upgrade and above all have this.. you will need to have two NICS installed in your HOST computer the one with the Win98upgrade or above OS.. the others don't need to be they just feed off the host.. Modem to Primary NIC card.. then 2nd NIC to hub.. hub to other computers sometimes its needed to refresh the IP on them but you know how that goes.. then ya have to just set up the connection disable and enable icon on your desktop for convenince if you want to disable it for any reason to the other comps.. here is a few links to help you out with this that I found.
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/ics and
http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/w2kicsci.htm the first Link is the most simple to follow.. the other confuses you but gives good information.
p.s. This will help keep your cable provider from figuring out if your Networking off there connection..most don't like it and want to charge for it.. doing this they won't have a clue.

of course you could just buy the more ips. Granted that would be probably 10 bucks per ip needed but its the fair way of doing it. Then again what do I know of fair, I got the router working fine no need for the 2nd ip.

Get a router.
Clone you nic mac number into the router from the computer that does get on line..
Now you are off and running.

A router like the linkSys:

Also removes your dependency on WinDoze for ICS and add security, as well as being a lot easier. Definately the recommended road IMHO.

i love my router, which if money isnt an isee its the best wat to go IMO.
using a router on ur cable modem is perfectly legit too.
nexland ISB soho is my baby of routing choice. If u do or think u'll do alot of copying of files from PC to PC or have to have the fastest most badassest hardware thsi router rocks, netgear is another good one and linksys is more the bottom end, but bottom end as in still getting the job done, not like its garbage, the crappy one is like Dlink lol, dont get that if u decide on getting a router.
also ask the network forum ppl, alot of smart ppl there that know their routers, each brand as a few models or more to make ur decision tougher.
