i have earthlink/covad dsl and i get a max of 160k down and 40k up my friend has cable and has the same speeds but has better pings that me does anyone know why? when i ping forum.speedguide.net i get a avg of 28 on dslreports i get 26.

Latency is usually hard to determine, because its constantly changing. I'm no expert but I know that many factors affect your latency, like time of day, internet congestion and other factors. Try some ping test at different times of the day at the same url to see if there is a difference.

Doesnt hurt to try.

get a faster computer, windows xp and a nic if u dont have one.

i have a p4 1.6a @ 2.4ghz if that isnt fast enough i dont know what is

Neptune is correct. There are many factors that affect latency. Do some ping testing to see where the high pings occur.
