What is PPPoE?

Post by arkie »

I was reading about this in sguide_tweak_2k_pppoe.

It asked if ISP has PPPoE implemented.

How would I know?

PPPoE = Point to Point Protocol Over Ethernet
Acts much like dial-up in that you must logon with software before using the connection.
It's primarily usd by ADSL ISPs.

Then I would need this one for cable modem?

sguide_tweak_2k.zip (updated 12/18/01) - Generic patch for Windows XP and Windows 2000 (all versions). This patch will optimize your TCP/IP Registry settings for high speed Internet connections. To install, extract, then just double-click and reboot.

Dude. Not sure if you need this for a CABLE modem. I hook up my cable modem using straight TCP/IP. I do need this protocol for DSL modem however. I run Sympatico DSL and before I switched to XP I used RASPPPoE. Its about 90kb in size and is da bomb. Sure beats the 25MB connection manager my ISP tried to force me to use. If you run XP, PPPoE is built in.
