Disk Recovery Software? recommendations? anyone tried Restorer2000 Pro?

One of my NTFS partitions was damaged when someone tried to place a new partition on the drive. The drive in XP is now an unrecognizable format.
I was looking into software to recover the contents of the drive.
I tried Ontrack Easy Recovery Pro - but it was unable to accomplish anything. I then tried Recover2000 (demo version)
It found all my files, however I couldn't recover any of them because the demo version only recovers up to 32kb of the file.
Has anyone used this software? I'm a little leary to spend the money on it, if it's just gonna recover my files as corrupt.
I was also surprised to see that they spammed several of the newsgroups.
Might anyone recommend any other software for recovery?
