I was told it is better to reset the cable modem once a while to refresh it. Is that true? and how often should we do that?

No, that isn't necessary as long as you are able to connect.

Have not touched mine since August 23,2001. Thats when I got a new one.

There is no reason to reset the cable modem unless customer support tells you to. One thing that refreshing the modem could do is increase your speed. If you have the modem reset during off peak times you may see a little bit better speed instead of reseting it durning peak times.

Xbit - Can you please explain this more? This is the first time I have heard this.

I tried to turn off and on the router and cable modem, and the speed was back to normal, think there is something build up inside either in the router or cable modem. That will solve my problem when the speed of the connection is slow down too much.

Well during peak times there is more traffic on the network. There is more static than during off peak times. Static is not good for cable lines because it causes a weak signal wich causes slow or unwanted speeds. Just try it one day. disconnect your modem during peak times and then test your speed a few times at diffrent sites, then in the morning when you wake up disconnect and sync up again. Take a few speed test during peak times so the traffic is about the same. Chances are that your speed will be faster.
