Why all dsl and cable seams to be capped at 128 k in canada and usa have 700 and up for the same price?

I live in montreal , i think i have call 5 provider of dsl and 1 cable . All are capped on the same : 128 .

The videotron cable of montreal said to me , that the speed 3 or 4 year ago was 900 up . The guys at the support dont know why the speed is now at 128.

Its is because they dont want to user make ftp and web server?

Its is because canada suck?

Even in the USA most DSL is capped at 128 kilobits and download is 640. In Canada we are lucky with 1184 down and 160 kbits up. The 1st generation Nortel Networks modem which is used with a lot of DSL in Canada has a technical limitation of 128K, so it's not even a cap.

17 KB, your comparing two different numbers 17 KB is actually 136 kilobits up. 17 is kilobytes, we get a maximum of 1184 kilobits down and 160 kilobits up or 148 kilobytes down and 20 kilobytes up.
