So as some members here may recall, I'm a huge fan of the IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad "T" series...I've used many of them. VERY durable laptops, like the "Ford F-350/GMC 3500/RAM 3500" equivalent of laptops if one were to make an analogy to workhorse trucks.
Pricey though. Often above most peoples reach...usually at 1,500 to 2,000 bucks and up.
Well Lenovo came out with a newer entry level Thinkpad lineup, the "Edge" series. My Thinkpad T60p was beginning to die a slow death, after years and years of very heavy abuse. I was going to get an Asus laptop...but in looking at Lenovos site, saw the new Thinkpad Edge lineup...and gave it a shot. Just arrived today, a E420S model. Ordered it with Win7 Pro, an i5 processor, 4 gigs of RAM, 300 gig drive, has an Intel wifi card. They save on the NIC..that's a Realtec gigabit..but I don't plug it in much, usually just running on wireless. 14" screen (1366x768 res), I think it's 4.2 lbs. Under 700 bucks retail price. Feels fairly sturdy...more so than many laptops in this price range. Time will tell!
